ECCCM participating in the Feinstein
$1 Million giveaway to fight hunger

For the thirteenth straight year, Alan Shawn Feinstein will divide $1 million among hunger fighting agencies nationwide using it to help them raise funds during March 1 and April 30, 2010.

The Eastern Catawba Cooperative Christian Ministry, Inc. (ECCCM) in Newton is excited about participating in the challenge again this year. This challenge comes at a time when donations to ECCCM are usually slow and this generates a lot of excitement. The match from the Feinstein Foundation is based upon a percentage and not a dollar for dollar match.

We’re very excited about the possibilities this provides to our emergency food pantry. In 2009 ECCCM provided over 12,087 free food assists to families in Catawba County and the food was valued at over $1,131,153. ECCCM was vey blessed in 2009 and didn’t have to turn anyone away because we didn’t have food in our pantry.

We’re asking the churches, schools, businesses and individuals to get involved in this great effort. We’re asking that churches receive a special offering and not designate their operational monies. This is a remarkable community challenge and will benefit all the people in this County. We hope the churches and community will get behind this challenge for ECCCM. This is a win - win situation for everyone.

According to the Feinstein Foundation, “Agencies should simply inform their donors that the more of a donation they make to their agency - from March 1st to April 30th the more of the Feinstein money will be added to their donation! These donations can include cash, checks and food items (that can be valued at $1.00 per item or pound) as well as pledges, as long as they were obtained only in response to our challenge and will be paid by December 31, 2010.”

The million dollars will then be divided proportionately by percentage among all agencies complying with the above (a minimum of $250 and a maximum of $40,000 to any one participating agency).

Feinstein’s past $1 million challenges to fight hunger have raised a record $1 Billion for agencies nationwide. Agencies should remind their donors that their donation toward this campaign makes them partners in one of the most successful grassroots campaign to fight hunger of all times. That is something they can take great pride in. To read more about this effort go to www.feinsteinfoundation.org or contact ECCCM at (828) 465-1702.
